Why We Take Communion Every Week

Why do we take communion every Sunday at Saguaro Buttes?

There are several reasons.

Jesus commanded it.

Matt. 26:26 ¶ “While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
Matt. 26:27 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you;
Matt. 26:28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.”

Jesus set the example by taking communion himself.

Matt. 26:29 “But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

The examples of the early disciples.

Acts 20:7 ¶ “On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread.”

Our Practice

At Saguaro Buttes communion is one of the main focuses of our weekly services. We offer it every Sunday as we believe this was the example set by the early disciples. We offer it to every person, regardless of your background, because we believe communion should be open to every person that believes in Jesus our Savior. Each Sunday we have a communion meditation before the emblems of grape juice and unleavened bread are offered. This meditation helps us focus on communion, and helps brings our minds back to the cross of Christ and his sacrifice that he made for each of us.
